Hearts & BARKs
The annual Hearts and BARKs Gala is a celebration for love of animals for St. Valentine’s Day. The event has now been held for 5 consecutive years in February.
The event features live and silent auctions, which usually include vacations, jewelry, pet accessories, furnishings, Valentine gift items, candles, and other exciting offerings.
The Sonny Mac Blues Band has been the entertainment for the past 2 years due to overwhelming popularity. Sonny Mac and his musicians played a string of favorite blues, jazz, and Motown tunes to the dancing delight of those attending.
On the menu in 2008 was pork loin and prime rib, accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes, seasoned green beans, sweet and sour German red cabbage, spring salad, and homemade bread. Sweeter than honey desserts were prepared by Kornelia Sedlemaier and her team of pastry chefs.
"We are all very excited about the interest in this lifesaving event. Each year the organization gains more support from animal lovers and awareness of the BARK mission spreads exponentially," a spokesperson commented.
To fund the event, members solicit donations and line up help for the event. Students are encouraged to offer their assistance as kitchen help and servers.
A full-house was on hand for the fifth annual Hearts and BARKS Gala at the Bosque Conservatory.
All of the 145 tickets to the fourth annual Hearts and BARKs Valentine Gala were snapped up, and the Bosque Conservatory’s Tin Building Theatre was almost bursting at the seams with activity.
BARK Garage Sale
BARK's annual garage sale is usually held a week or two before the county-wide garage sale. Supporters are encouraged to donate items to the sale that are in good enough condition to resale at the garage sale. BARK also needs volunteers for set up before and to work during the sale.
BARK in the Park
BARK joins in the activity and fun of Fallfest by hosting Bark in the
Park- a fundraiser JUST FOR KIDS!
It gives them an opportunity to have a direct effect in the lives of homeless pets. All elementary school aged children are encouraged to join in the fun.
This
fundraiser works like a walk-a-thon, in that the participants get
sponsors and pledges to walk their dogs in the park- Heritage Plaza.
Members have spoken at area schools to announce the event to eager participants. BARK looks forward to having children help in the effort to save stray animals. “We are thrilled that the excitement and festivity of Fallfest will make this fundraiser successful for BARK and the kids. Fallfest is such a huge event in our community we want to be a part of it.”
Prizes will be given to kids and their pets for interesting characteristics such as hairiest dog, longest tail, and more.
